Artifact #5
Artifact #5 - Ethics of Intellectual Freedom Presentation
Program Outcome - PO1
Professional Value - PV3
This artifact was completed in the course LI801: Foundations of Library & Information Science. This course was taught by Mirah Dow and its purpose was to examine the philosophical and ethical underpinnings, roles and societal contexts, and current issues of the global information society. For this particular assignment, a group consisting of Gretchen Engle, Kimberly Patton, Eryn Campbell and myself were tasked with reviewing a case dealing with an ethical dilemma. Our case dealt with a committee chair, the listserv he was in charge of, and the intellectual freedom of both him and the members of the listserv. Our group had to identify the moral dilemma, evaluate and align it with the principles of information ethics, and pose a solution. This assignment was so important because it gave us our first taste of PO1 and PV3: Integrity. It taught us a philosophy of ethical behavior that we can apply to future situations that may arise in our jobs or any point during life. Having a base knowledge and understanding of ethical principles and moral dilemmas is a life-long lesson that can be useful in numerous situations.
Below is our presentation.
