Artifact #1
Artifact #1 - New Hope Library Technology Plan
Program Outcome - PO1, PO8
Professional Value - PV2
This artifact was completed in the course LI815: Information Technology. This course was taught by Kelly Fann, and its purpose was to introduce the basic information technology concepts and skills necessary for library and information professionals. For this particular assignment, our group, consisting of Jamie Benard, Terry Chartier, Amber Liposchak, and myself, were tasked with creating a three-year technology plan for a fictional library. With encouragement from the professor, our group tackled this problem in a new way and with some creativity. Instead of creating a technology plan for a standard public library, we kept the same core concepts and rules of a technology plan and applied them to a public library set in a post-apocalyptic setting. Our group still learned about creating a technology plan but we also thought outside the box by drawing on atypical resources to complete a challenging project. The group setting of this project also helped me with PO8 by teaching me about appropriating change through communication and collaboration. While this project wasn't exactly an administrative setting, it did give some insight into how those dynamics work and what is the most effective way to get things done. Completing the project this way also helped with PV2: Leadership. Our group completed this assignment with creative problem solving and openness to new ideas, two characteristics we will try to use in our future careers. PO1: Foundations of the Profession also states that students should articulate a philosophy of client-centered information services. Our New Hope Library was very client-centered, doing the project this setting made us focus specifically on our clients’ needs, their survival depended on it.
Below is our technology plan. I picked the version of our plan that includes the instructor's feedback on the assignment.
