Artifact #3
Artifact #3 - Authenticity and Integrity in Digital Preservation, a Digital Discussion
Program Outcome - PO4, PO6
Professional Value - PV4
This artifact was completed in the course LI827: Preservation Strategies. This course was taught by Kris Kern and its purpose was to introduce the strategies, techniques, processes, and applications involved in the preservation of library materials. For this particular assignment, I was tasked with creating an essay to be a part of a larger Digitization Discussion and using “digitization: a preservation strategy” as my starting point. The topic I focused on was authenticity and integrity with digital resources. This essay is important because made me work with issues in digital records, which will be key parts to the futures of both libraries and archives. As digital collections become larger it will be important for institutions to secure their digital holdings and be able to assure patrons by proving the reliability of their records. This assignment met the standard of PO4 because I discussed how institutions will identify, repackage, and deliver information resources. I also accomplished PO6 by identifying and using five relevant sources. As this was a discussion with my fellow students my essay presented knowledge that hopefully furthered their understanding of important digital issues, and therefore it also meets the standard of PV4: Mentorship.
Below is my essay and a quote from the instructor.
